None of the motorcycles involved in the crash were road legal.
BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont police are investigating after a woman was seriously injured in a two-motorcycle crash on Friday.
It happened in the 1700 block of Fairway Street in Beaumont. Beaumont police responded to a call around 2:20 p.m. regarding a motorcycle accident.
Police were informed that two people were riding bicycles when they collided. A 23-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Beaumont police told 12News crews at the scene that none of the motorcycles involved in the crash were street legal. Although the police understand that people like to go and enjoy the good weather, they said that driving vehicles like these is dangerous.
“We just want to remind people, you know, in situations like this, first of all, that it’s not legal to ride these dirt bikes on city streets,” said the Beaumont officer, Carol Riley. “There are no stop lights, no helmets, no practice, just a dangerous situation.”
Beaumont police said situations like Friday’s can happen when people don’t err on the side of caution.
“Think of people getting killed only on bicycles, let alone in vehicles that are going at, you know, high speeds without any safety equipment, pieced together,” Riley said. “Anything can go wrong, and it happened today.”
It’s unclear what charges, if any, those involved could face. The incident is currently under investigation.
Police are encouraging Southeast Texans to contact area authorities if they see anyone driving an illegal vehicle. This is a developing story. We’ll update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
