HAVERFORDWEST County suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night, beaten 3-2 by Penybont at SDM Glass Stadium.
Their victory on Saturday over Airbus had propelled them to the top of the JD Cymru Premier, but the loss drops them to fifth place, while Penybont overtakes them in fourth.
The home team took advantage of a lot of ball possession early on without really disturbing the Bluebirds goal.
However, in the 15th minute Nathan Wood found Kane Owen and his low cross came to Rhys Kavanagh who took a throw-in to stop the ball before firing into the roof of the net.
The Bluebirds were only behind for two minutes. An Ioan Evans free-kick was saved brilliantly by the home goalkeeper, earning County a corner.
The corner from the right was headed down and Ben Fawcett was in the right spot as he acrobatically sent the ball into the net.
Haverfordwest were dealt a blow as Jazz Richards had to pick up an injury and he was replaced by Iori Humphreys.
Penybont was then forced into a change as well, with striker Rhys Kavanagh being replaced by Mael Davies.
Towards the end of the first half, Haverfordwest enjoyed good possession but were unable to create a chance.
Kai Whitmore then escaped into the box but his cross was blocked for a corner.
The half ended with the teams tied 1-1, with County perhaps the happier of the two.
Early in the second half, Ryan George did well down the right and got a cross but Jack Wilson saw his header saved.
From there, the Bont keeper played the ball up for Wood who shoved the ball in and his cross shot was tapped by Keyon Reffell.
Kai Whitmore then saw a blocked shot as Bont continued to search for more goals.
On the hour mark, Rhys Abbruzzese sent an inviting cross into the box for Wilson but he headed wide wide.
With 20 minutes remaining, Penybont scored his third goal of the game. Rebell won the ball and fired Ryan Reynolds whose cross took a deflection off Abbruzzese and looped into the net.
Wilson then saw a blocked shot as the Bluebirds looked for a way back into the game.
A long throw from Wilson almost paid off but although the ball passed behind a Bont defender the referee could not see and awarded a goal kick.
Nathan Wood then moved closer but his shot was well saved by Bluebirds goaltender Zac Jones.
With three minutes remaining, Haverfordwest pulled one back as another long shot fell on Iori Humphreys who fired into the corner to score his first goal for the club and make it 3-2.
They were, however, unable to find a late leveler as Penybont clung to victory.
The Bluebirds are in action again on Saturday September 3 as they host Newtown at Ogi Bridge Meadow, kick off at 2.30pm.
