Chris Pfeiffer, the man widely credited with bringing the streetbike stunt into the mainstream, has died after taking his own life after a long battle with depression.

Pfeiffer, 51, is famous for his association with BMW Motorrad and with Red Bull, the German traveling the world and bringing his inimitable flair to stunts and opening up a section of the industry that was, until his arrival, largely conducted in the dark. .

Chris Pfeiffer will be remembered as one of the true pioneers of streetbike freestyle.

Pfeiffer was an accomplished racer, having raced off-road and motocross as a junior before later racing and winning the Erzberg Rodeo four times in 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2004.

But his real talent lay in his ability to bend a street motorcycle to his will, his stunts capturing the hearts and minds of fans around the world. He is also credited with being one of the first, if not the first, factory-backed stuntmen with his ties to BMW Motorrad. He is certainly the first stuntman to have a machine named after him when BMW released the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer in 2009.

Pfeiffer’s popularity was never more evident than in the United States, as he regularly attended MotoGP and WorldSBK events to entertain the crowds during race intervals, often with the youngster who credits him with having inspired his own riding style, fellow Red Bull athlete Aaron. Colton.

Pfeiffer retired from competitive stunt riding in 2015 after winning four freestyle world championships, but in recent years has suffered from extreme depression which led him to take his own life.

He will be buried March 26 at 9:30 a.m. in Trauchgau, Germany, and his family has cleared anyone wishing to attend and say goodbye.
