So, are you going to go back to New York?
No, I’m going to go to the Georgia / Florida area. I did not quite understand. A friend of ours passed away last year and his wife and they have a few children and so on. Maybe head over there. They live in Georgia. Then Florida… I’ve gotten phone calls for jobs before, but I don’t want to get into anything. You do not know. We will see.
When you say you have anxiety, I can feel it. You have this crew under you, these horsemen. It is no exaggeration to say that you have their lives in your hands. It’s so much work and so much stress that people don’t understand it. It’s a great job. You get paid well and you can do the coolest things, but sometimes it’s worth it.
For sure. It is so hard.
How Roger [De Coster] and Ian [Harrison] Take it? Did they try to talk you out of it?
Everyone was caught off guard, which is obviously the case for the entire industry. They understood. Just the way life is here in California and stuff, obviously being in New York isn’t much higher, but the cost of living is right through the roof and it just keeps going up. My wife stays at home to take care of the kids and things and it’s just difficult.
It wasn’t really known behind the scenes, but there were issues with the ignitions, riders, and bikes. I was here. Our carburetors fell at Yamaha. I sometimes remember the feeling in my stomach when the shit went wrong on the test track for Chad, for Timmy, for Vuillemin. It’s just the worst feeling in the world, isn’t it?
Yeah. It’s boring.
You can’t sleep.
No. Impossible to sleep. I do not understand why. I can’t figure it out. It’s crazy. i was working for [Kyle] Cunningham among amateurs when he was on Yamaha. I remember a race at Glen Helen and all of a sudden he is pushing his bike. I’m like “What is this?” Then a guy from Yamaha comes in and he says to me, “You haven’t plugged in the carburetor? “I say to myself:” Wire the carburetor? What are you talking about? ”He’s like,“ I told you! ”I’m like,“ You never told me, because I promise you that thing would’ve been wired. ”
