The AMA Vintage Grand Championship, held in conjunction with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, includes motocross, hare scrambles, road racing and trials – plus a round of the AMA Vintage Flat Track National Championship Series – and class winners in each discipline are recognized as AMA National Champions.
The AMA Vintage Grand Championship also crowns the AMA Vintage Grand Champion and AMA Vet/Senior Vintage Grand Champion, special recognitions that combine points from off-road disciplines – motocross, trials and hare scrambles.
All runners must have general admission tickets in their possession prior to gate entry, and only pre-registered runners with registration confirmation will have access to Mid-Ohio on Thursday, July 21 at 9 a.m. Doors open for general admission at 5 p.m.
Participating riders compete on vintage motorcycles from different eras in the many racing disciplines presented each year at the AMA VMD. Vintage racing includes motocross, road racing, hare scrambles, trials, flat track racing, and pit bike racing. Be aware that pit bike races have moved from their usual Saturday night slot to Friday night.
Young riders can also get in on the action. The age requirements for competitors in each discipline are as follows:
- Trials:4 years and over
- Motocross and Hare Scrambles:9 years and over
- Flat track:Ages 12 and up (Young riders are not permitted to participate in the on-track unbraked class)
- Road race:14 years and over
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the nation’s largest – and longest running – vintage motorcycle event, with more than 40,000 attendees each year enjoying off-road and on-road racing, bike shows, AMA Hall exhibits of Fame, camping, laps for history on the legendary Mid-Ohio racetrack and, of course, the nation’s largest motorcycle swap meet.
Taking place July 22-24, this year’s event promises to be the best yet, with the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and 1993 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz as Grand Marshal.
