Monster Energy Congratulates Team Driver Daiki Ikeda for winning first place in the 2022 Damn Am Street Skateboarding Competition at The Berrics Skatepark in Los Angeles, California

LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — What an epic contest! Monster Energy Congratulates Team Driver Daiki Ikeda for winning first place in the 2022 Damn Am Street Skateboarding Competition at The Berrics Skatepark in Los Angeles, California. In the world’s largest competition showcase for aspiring amateur riders, the 16-year-old from Tokyo, Japanclimbed to the top in a stormy finale.

Monster Army is an exclusive sponsor of the Damn Am series. June 10-12, 2022, Damn Am Los Angeles provided a showcase for the best amateur street skaters in the world. Held at the iconic skatepark, The Berrics, the competition attracted riders from around the world as part of a series that also included tour stops in Barcelona, Japanand New York City.

Recognized as the largest amateur skateboarding competition series in the world, Damn Am was created by Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT) in 2001. Now in its 20th year, the Damn Am Series has brought the Tampa Am experience—still as an official qualifier to the annual SPoT contest—to skateboarders and audiences around the world. Over 5,000 skaters have participated in the series to date, including Monster Energy’s Nyjah Hustonand Ishod Waire in their early days as young amateurs to come.

For the first leg of the 2022 Damn Am Tour at The Berrics, the roster included 97 morning skaters who battled it out in an intense qualifying session on Saturday. Holding on with technical tricks and consistency, Ikeda qualified for Sunday’s semifinals in fourth place. Leaving a big impression on the judges and the crowd, Ikeda secured his place in the final twelve by placing first in the semi-finals with a clear run.

Once the action moved to the finals, the difficulty level skyrocketed, pushed by a strong Japanese contingent. Fun fact: Six of the twelve riders in the final were from Japan. Ikeda continued to raise the bar by digging deep into his technical bag of tricks. In his most notable run, he landed a big frontside boardslide flip on the big rail, pyramid hip hardflip on the rail, frontside bluntslide kickflip on the A-frame, sugarcane grind the A-frame and backside 270 kickflip to lipslide the big rail for the win.

As a reward for winning Damn Am Los Angeles 2022, Ikeda received $500 to the Tampa Am trip and a Straight Shot to the 2022 Tampa Am Semifinals. This kid is literally going the distance!

Ikeda first turned heads at age 13 when he first came to the United States and won gold in the Junior Street Division at X Games Minneapolis 2019. Backed by the Monster Army program, he was invited to Thrasher Magazine’s AM Scramble trip. and became a viral video sensation with his 2021 game for The Berrics website. Now a Monster Energy rider in his own right, the young rookie is just getting started – and victory at Damn Am 2022 is living proof of that.
