Laconia Motorcycle Week kicks off in Weirs Beach for its 99th year

Thousands of bikers visited Laconia for the Saturday start of the annual Motorcycle Week. The 99th Motorcycle Week is the first since 2019 not affected by COVID-19. Attendees said it was great to have everyone back at Weirs Beach this year. “The turnout wasn’t that great last year,” said biker Johnny Monaco. “The year before they had COVID, so they didn’t have it, but last year it was probably half the number of bikes there are right now.” Monaco came from Massachusetts with a group of five friends, which is something they said they do every year. “We came for the day, then we will go back,” said Monaco. “I’m too old to spend the night. It’s for young children.” Even participants who don’t ride motorcycles said they had a busy week ahead of them. Local vendors said the weekend was the most profitable of the year, selling mainly shirts, hats and patches. Ronald Root of Rochester said New Hampshire was the best place in the country for bikers. or an organization or whatever. I ride to enjoy my bike,” Root said. Laconia Motorcycle Week runs until June 19.

Ronald Root of Rochester said New Hampshire is the best place in the country for bikers.

“I don’t ride for any chapter or organization or anything. I ride to enjoy my bike,” Root said.

Laconia Motorcycle Week runs until June 19.
