BERLIN – Boxes to Boots – a non-profit organization dedicated to sending medical packages to American troops serving overseas – is hosting a charity motorcycle ride on Saturday to raise funds and collect items for the next expedition of Christmas of the group.
The event will take place at the Independent Italian Political Club, 16 Harding Street. Registration for the ride it from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The fundraiser will also include a barbecue, live music, raffles and a poker tournament, including a prize of $ 500. Classic cars are welcome.
All cash proceeds will go towards the cost of sending care packages overseas. It costs $ 20 to ship each package and with around 800 boxes on hand, Boxes to Boots relies on community support.
The motorcycle race will start in Berlin and head to Crabby Al’s in Thomaston, Johnny B’s in Wolcott and Sam The Clam Pub & Grub in Plantsville before returning to Berlin. The registration fee is $ 25 for riders and $ 15 for passengers.
âI am very grateful to IPIC for organizing this fundraiser for us,â said Boxes to Boots President Kristen Gauvin. âThese care packages are very expensive to ship overseas, so every gesture counts. “
Gauvin also hopes to recruit volunteers for the wrapping event on November 6 at New Britain Bees Stadium in New Britain.
Although the packages are distributed worldwide, this year the majority of the boxes will be shipped to East Africa where Connecticut National Guard troops serve.
This is the largest Connecticut National Guard deployment since 2009, with 600 troops.
