Eli Tomac talks about winning the Motocross of Nations for the first time

Runner X: Finally! This is the fundamental question of the race. Is it elation, is it a thrill, or is it a relief to finally have this one?
Eli Tomac: [Laughs] It’s a lot of things! But massive and just rad relief. Rad for the United States, you know. It’s been 11 years and we’ve been so close so many times and we haven’t made it. And then of course the rain shows up today. We did it. We did it.

I’ve seen your faces on that podium, it’s like nothing else. I’ve never seen you react like that.
It’s cool! And there’s no sea of people like that, period, outside of the podium. It was like four times what we normally get. It was epic.

Talk about team unity compared to previous Team USA, I heard a lot more organization. Have you felt that camaraderie and organization this year?
Yeah. We were good, we were solid. I mean, let’s say we were vibrating! The vibrations were strong! From Friday until now, I told the guys that the only thing I really told them was just to try not to let things wear you down. At the end of the day, we ride on an off-road motorcycle track. The event itself is very different, but at the end of the day we’re just riding our bikes on the same motocross track. A lot of things look different here. The starting procedure, you have to run on Saturday, there are a lot of things that put you off.
