Dean Ferris returns to Factory Honda group in 2022

Dean Ferris returns to Factory Honda race for 2022

Honda Australia welcomes three-time Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris to return to competition aboard the Honda CRF450R in 2022, as he returns from retirement.

Ferris has made an incredible amount over the past 10 years; competing in the World MX Grand Prix achieving 21 top 10s, including one victory and three podiums in the 450 (MX1) and 250 (MX2) classes, not to mention his dominance in the Australian Motocross Championship, winning three titles in sharp.

Ferris enjoyed modest success with the Factory Honda team in 2008 and 2009 before a stellar year as a private rider on a Honda in 2010.

“I am delighted with what will happen with Honda! As I was healing from my back injury I wasn’t sure what my racing future looked like so I decided to retire as I thought it was better for me and my family to the time. Since then, the break has allowed me to regain the freedom to ride without any pressure, which brought me back to the basics of why I love to ride. I spent a lot of time thinking and realized that I still had the desire to race in Australia. It’s been a crazy race so far, Europe has been intense, a challenge that I enjoyed but it is unfortunate that some injuries have marred my overall results. It’s been a minute since I raced for Honda, the last time I rode for them it was actually their first full season as a Honda factory program so I can see they have come a long way since then. Yarrive is dedicated to sport and Honda so I think it will be a successful partnership.

Honda Australia General Sales Manager Tony Hinton has welcomed Ferris back to Honda and believes the racing calendar will continue in its entirety next year.

“Dean has accomplished more than most Australian riders at the international level thanks to his determination. It will be fantastic to see Dean ride our new CRF450R and we can’t wait to see him in action. We wish him and the team every success.

Team principal Yarrive Konsky also wanted Ferris back to the Honda Racing squad, admitting that there is no work done yet.

“When Dean came to us, it was my first year running the factory program. As you would expect a lot has changed during this time, our program has grown tremendously and I am proud that we are a threat to the championships every time we line up. Having a rider of Dean’s ability and experience only strengthens our program. I look forward to working with him, learning from him, his experiences and making this team as successful as possible. The new Honda CRF450R has proven its worth around the world with Roczen, Gajser and Sexton showing off its capabilities, so we can’t wait to have Dean on one and get down to business for 2022. ”
