Crowd lynches suspected motorbike thief, police arrest four

The Ondo State Police Command said on Wednesday it had arrested four people for allegedly killing a suspected motorbike thief in Ondo town, Ondo State.

PUNCH Metro found that the men were part of a mob that lynched the suspect in the Sabo area of ​​the old community.

Our correspondent has learned that a gang was apprehended in the early hours of Sunday as they attempted to steal motorbikes.

The thugs would have fled.

However, one of them was later arrested and handed over to Fagun Division Police, Ondo.

According to a source, the deceased returned to the scene to ask for other members of his gang who had fled.

Angry locals reportedly chased him to where he was burned alive.

State Police Public Relations Officer Ms. Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident.

She said: ‘The suspects have been arrested for participating in jungle justice by killing a man who they believe stole a motorbike. The case was transferred to the state CID for further investigation.

Odunlami warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
