Morgantown, WV (December 16, 2021) – MX Sports, producer of the 41st Monster Energy AMA National Amateur Motocross Championship, is pleased to announce the 2022 Zone Qualifiers and Regional Championships Schedule. The qualifying program will begin in mid-February with Regional Qualifiers followed by Regional Championships running from late May through June. The National will take place from Monday August 1st to Saturday August 6th.

After the super-regional format once again, this year’s qualifiers will begin in Arizona. The program will run in 32 different states across the country, starting with more than 50 zone qualifiers where riders must finish in the top positions listed in the additional rules based on their region. After qualifying in one zone, riders will move on to the 18 Regional Championships which take place in 8 regions across the United States.

“The 2022 lineup of Zone Qualifiers and Regional Championship facilities is the best America has to offer,” said MX Sporting Events Director Tim Cotter. “Organizers and their staff look forward to continuing the growth the National Amateur Program has experienced over the past four decades.”

Regional qualifying will again serve as the first step to qualifying for the largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship in the world. The regional championships then serve as the next step to rank riders in the national championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race during the National Championship from Monday August 1st through Saturday August 6th.

“I’m looking forward to a great qualifying season in 2022,” said Mike Burkeen, AMA’s assistant racing director and director of motocross. “We look forward to returning to some of our favorite tracks, while also looking forward to seeing some of the new ones on the program this year.”

The 2022 lineup includes many Pro Motocross tracks that are becoming a crucial part of Loretta’s road. With zone qualifying taking place at Budds Creek and The Wick 338 in the North East, RedBud in the Middle East, Thunder Valley Motocross Park in the South Central range and Fox Raceway in the South West. Then in late May, the Regional Championships will begin with High Point Raceway hosting the Northeast Amateur Regional, along with Washougal MX Park in the Northwest and Fox Raceway in the Southwest hosting the Youth, Amateur and Vet Regional Championships. These national tracks offer amateur racers a chance to race on the same track as the professionals on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship circuit.

The schedule will also return to other favorites such as Tomahawk MX in the Northeast, Muddy Creek Raceway in the Southeast region, Farm 14 in the Southcentral as well as Wildcat Creek in the Mideast. Mapleshade MX in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania for the northeast and Motosplat in Mountain, Wisconsin for the central-north regions are newly added to the zone qualifying schedule in 2022.

With the exception of the Northwest, Midwest, and Southwest regions, riders can once again compete in the Regional Plus classes for the AMA Regional Championships at Regions. Regional plus classes do not require advancement from zone qualifications. Regional plus classes will NOT advance to the National Championship. Rider and machine eligibility requirements set forth herein apply to Regional Plus classes.
